At the program’s core lies the Humanities Alliance Fellows: Doctoral students of The Graduate Center serving a two-year fellowship, assigned to different CUNY community colleges. Fellows worked with faculty and staff in developing and supporting spaces and initiatives that foster undergraduate students’ critical engagement in the humanities. At the same time, they developed a reflexive practice about their role as scholars and professionals. In phase 1, fellows taught courses related to their academic interests at LaGuardia Community College. In phase 2, fellows explored additional spaces outside the classroom, contributing to various educational mentor roles in four different community colleges. Mentorship was a fundamental component of the fellowship, exploring how intentional social and professional relationships shape one’s understanding of institutions and processes.
Our Program Handbook collected helpful information about Fellows’ expectations and suggested practices. Greg Hartman wrote about his experience as a Fellow here.
